And so it begins... Or atleast the scramble to build a buffer does anyway.

So the results of the poll and a few discussions with some other authors helped guide my decision. Here is who we ended up with.

Ace's Aura color is... a Clear Aqua Blue!
Ace's gender is Nonbinary, and they will go by They/Them pronouns.
They have blue eyes, a Serious nature, and are often lost in thought.

What's that? you don't think that these were the most popular choices? Well you aren't Wrong... I instead went with the second most popular choices!
And I decided that PMD comics needed a non-binary main character after discussing it with fellow authors.

My apologies for asking for your input but not going with what most people wanted, but it did help me craft a character that I feel will stand out in the realm of Pokemon comics. I hope you will bear with me as we send this character on the journey of a lifetime!

Everyone... Welcome to PKMN:IA!

Heyo! Ace kinda looks a bit like Han Solo. XD
WriterRaven June 15th, 2017, 10:08 am
Looking good, Rym! Super excited for this!
DKWIdoin June 15th, 2017, 10:38 am
Did your style change a bit? It's a little different from what I remember :v

Anyway, this looks promising! I'm pumped for this!

love the comic cover and it only took you around 6 to 8 hours I think
LKWayvern June 15th, 2017, 11:48 am
I'm pretty sure most of the traits Ace ended up with were ones I voted for(or ones I didn't vote for but were equally okay with), anyways, so I'm happy. ^^
Axurite June 15th, 2017, 6:52 pm
. Oooo, interesting! I wonder if Ruthe is going to wear the Darth Vader mask this reboot.
Flamel June 15th, 2017, 7:31 pm
@Axurite: I kind of like that mask.
42Meep June 16th, 2017, 12:44 am
*slightly annoyed by lack of Ace's gender*
Woo June 16th, 2017, 1:04 am
@42Meep: As someone who has a few nonbinary friends, I really like having this sort of diversity, it breaks a lot of molds in somewhat stale established character traits and I'm super excited to see where Rym will go with it ^^ (That said nonbinary is a type of gender, it just happens not to fall under male/female)
42Meep June 16th, 2017, 7:37 pm
@Woo: oh... Like mono-gender stuff? Like slugs?
Woo June 16th, 2017, 10:15 pm
@42Meep: Not exactly? One person I know was just born with XXY chromosomes (rather than XX or XY), but other people I know just simply prefer they/them pronouns by choice. It's definitely a minority group, but having a little normalization for it through protagonists is always pleasant to see.
Just_taking_a_look (Guest) June 17th, 2017, 4:08 am
@Woo: I don't mean to be offensive by all means but... that is not considered a malformation?
You know, something that is not normal and shouldn't be considered as such.
You know, like some sort of illness.

I mean, I am not saying that these friends of yours are evil or that they are not people (which I have no doubt that they are and deserve all love, respect, and support as anyone), i am referring to their condition and our posture against it.

It's like someone who was born without arms. Is that considered normal? Not really. Should we accept them? Of course. But should we accept that being born without arms is a normal condition for the human body? I don't think so.

Again, I don't mean any offense, because, as my guest name says, I am just taking a look... and asking some questions.
Woo June 17th, 2017, 12:46 pm
@Just_taking_a_look: I can't exactly tell what kind of point you're trying to make here? You are correct that XXY chromosomes aren't "normal". 42meep was just asking about what classifies as nonbinary (at least I thought so), and I answered their question by defining both the physical aspects someone might have and the mental aspects, as in, a physical nonbinary versus preferring they/them pronouns.

If your case is that nonbinary folk are not considered "normal", you're right. And that's why I appreciate Rym making their protagonist part of a minority group, it can help lead to wider acceptance of them in general. (I'm minoring in gender/sexuality studies in college so this sort of thing interests me, haha)

@Woo: Yeah, my apologies. I probably didn't explain myself well.

I did a fool of myself. Forget I even posted that comment.
Tehpikachu June 16th, 2017, 1:06 am
@42Meep; cool
rym218 June 16th, 2017, 1:06 am
@42Meep: I stated Ace's gender in the author comment.
bey108 June 16th, 2017, 4:02 am
The Ace of Spades I can't stop thinking of that song now. But still, can't wait to see how this turns out!
Guest June 17th, 2017, 1:59 pm
I dislike they/them pronouns because more often then not they make me think plural and then it takes me a minute to figure out what is actually being said.
Guest101 (Guest) June 17th, 2017, 3:01 pm
@Woo why does gender matter anyways? Making a big deal about it just makes it worse cause it makes it seem abnormal. I just want a good character, I don't care about genders or skin colors, I read for entertainment.
Woo June 17th, 2017, 3:05 pm
@Guest101: Ahh, sorry! I wasn't trying to rile anyone up, I thought I'd just throw in my two cents, Meep seemed a little distressed and I thought I'd share my thoughts on why I personally like the decision. It opens up a few new paths that I'm totally interested in seeing where Rym will go with it!
AgentNein June 19th, 2017, 1:18 pm
Just realized I haven't said anything here yet but I'm really excited to see where this goes and follow Ace through their adventure!
Dark/Light June 19th, 2017, 10:07 pm
um So excited I can't accurately describe how thrilled I am that there's more.
JL (Guest) June 20th, 2017, 1:33 am
Just a bit of a question I have been meaning to ask since the previous incarnation of this comic, but it would slip my mind each time- is Ace smaller than a normal absol? Or is Ruthe abnormally large for a charmeleon, or the simple solution of you're not using the "standard" sizes? I ask because Ace looks smaller than Ruthe in the cover here, and I remember a scene in the previous storyline where Ace had to stand on his hind legs to look Ruthe in the eyes. The official pokedex sizes show that in the games at least Ace would have been at least as tall as Ruthe. Just a weird little thing that I spotted and would kinda stick for some odd reason.
rym218 June 20th, 2017, 11:57 am
@JL: I'm not using the standard sizes.
JL (Guest) June 20th, 2017, 4:19 pm
@rym218: Ah, ok. I'm not even sure why that caught my eye like that.
LavenderLeaf June 29th, 2017, 4:24 am
I'm so excited for this! Also, having a non - binary main character is a pretty cool idea!
wifijoe July 5th, 2017, 9:43 pm
I need to read the news from comics more often. I was wondering why the other one wasn't updating... Now I know
Bluemj61 July 7th, 2017, 10:28 pm
wow.amazing.incredible art work i can already tell this will be more amazing than the old one.
wifijoe July 11th, 2017, 10:23 pm
@Woo I get what you are saying, I just can't imagine Ace as a girl. (Which will explain any of my slip-ups of using he or him instead of them or they)
Woo July 12th, 2017, 2:12 am
@wifijoe: I never said slip-ups were a bad thing, haha. They've always been they/them to me, seeing as they had an ambiguous gender in Lost Galaxy, so I get how you feel.
TheJGamer July 13th, 2017, 1:25 pm
i am too hyped for this

this will definitely be better than the old one
42Meep July 19th, 2017, 7:28 pm
@rym218 will the PMD LG ask blog be re-used for PMD IA?
rym218 July 20th, 2017, 1:42 pm
@42Meep: at the moment i have no plans for it. but we'll see if i do anything with it when i get the comic rolling!
